Underwriting
Newline’s Underwriting team, in collaboration with other departments, evaluates the unique risks facing potential clients to determine the most suitable (re)insurance product offering within available scope and terms of our commitments. Our underwriters are the customer-facing representatives of Newline, generating the Company’s revenue stream and driving the Company’s performance through the delivery of long-term profitable results. The underwriting team, in coordination with our actuarial, claims and other critical functional units, evaluates risk portfolios and interacts with clients, brokers and other distribution partners to structure mutually acceptable transactions.

Beyond underwriting, the team is dedicated to building and maintaining strong, long-term commercial relationships with these business partners. We pride ourselves on our disciplined and consistent underwriting philosophy, clearly defined risk appetite, and commitment to providing high-quality service.

Actuarial
The Actuarial department at Newline plays a central role in supporting the business’s strategic and operational objectives. Its core functions include pricing, reserving, and capital management.

Our pricing team collaborate with underwriters across insurance and reinsurance platforms. They leverage internal and external data to enhance account analysis, provide portfolio reviews and trend insights and develop pricing tools that support informed underwriting decisions.

The reserving team contributes to financial reporting and forecasting through rigorous actuarial valuations. Their responsibilities include quarterly reserve reviews, segmental portfolio analysis and communicating results to management and stakeholders. They also support business planning using models to assess financial performance under various scenarios.

Our capital team model Newline’s capital requirements, reflecting the financial risks inherent in the business. They collaborate with senior management to balance risk and return, ensuring that both economic and regulatory capital levels are maintained in line with the Newline’s risk appetite.

The department fosters an analytical approach and works collaboratively across these functions and with other teams and business partners. The department maintains strict compliance with actuarial standards.

Claims
The mission of the Claims department is to deliver on the promises made by our underwriters when we agree to provide insurance to our insureds and reinsureds. The Claims department comprises highly experienced claims professionals who strive to provide the highest level of service to our external and internal clients.

We handle a broad range of general and product liability claims with a special focus on life science and medical device products, Employers’ liability claims, all manner of professional liability claims covering all mainstream professions, Medical Malpractice claims, financial institutions claims, crime and fraud losses, directors and officers liability claims, Cargo and Specie claims, Cyber claims and Affinity and special Risks claims as well as Property Cat, Marine Aviation and Space, Speciality and Casualty treaty reinsurance claims. We handle claims within deductibles for insureds upon request.

When dealing with third party liability claims, we work with specialist external counsel where applicable to ensure our insureds receive excellent representation, devise bespoke strategies for the resolution of each claim and drive these claims to their best possible outcome. We work in tandem with our underwriting teams to ensure they provide a seamless service to our insureds and reinsureds at quote, bind and renewal stages and work closely with our actuarial teams to ensure that our reserves our always as timely and accurate as possible to achieve our goals as outlined in Odyssey Group’s Mission Statement.

Risk Management
The Risk Management department ensures that Newline maintains a robust and effective risk management framework. Its responsibilities span a wide range of activities across Newline, including: providing independent monitoring, review, and challenge of business activities; advising the business on identifying and managing risks in alignment with the agreed strategy; and delivering key outputs such as the ORSA and stress testing reports.

Information Technology
Our technology experts drive digital transformation within our networks and operations. Our focus is on people, processes and technology. Newline’s IT team covers Infrastructure, Help Desk, IT Procurement, IT Project Management, Application Support and Development, Programming, Business Analysis, Data Analytics, Data Engineering and more.
